Databases & Websites

We want to ensure you have access to online resources during our closure, so we are

  • Ordering additional copies of popular ebook and eaudio titles in OverDrive and CloudLibrary, to reduce or eliminate hold lists.
  • Doubling monthly Hoopla checkout limits to 40 through March and April, and adding 1,100 "free" popular titles that don't count against your checkout limit.

In addition, our database vendors are also offering free or enhanced services during this time, which we will make available to you for as long as they are offered:

  • Kanopy is creating a selection of "free" titles that do not count against monthly caps, including unlimited access to Kanopy Kids content!
  • For Pre-K students, Miss HumbleBee's Academy offers learning exercises in math, science, social studies, language and literacy, art, and music to prepare children for Kindergarten.

  • Brainfuse has added additional tutors for their live hours, and is providing stronger support for their 24/7 learning tools such as Skill Surfer and MEET online collaboration.
  • The popular genealogy resource Ancestry, normally restricted to in-library use, is available to you at home. (Access to this resource has been temporarily expanded to library cardholders working remotely, courtesy of ProQuest and its partner Ancestry.)
  • Scholastic Learn at Home provides daily lessons and activities to keep kids engaged and learning during school closures.
  • In addition to our usual Tumblebooks content, you may now access Tumblemath to support K-5 students
  • Pronunciator has added special COVID-19 lessons in 101 languages to help learners communicate with health care professionals - perfect for English Language Learners.

  • Kids InfoBits helps teachers (and parents) find curriculum-appropriate content for young learners on animals, music, people, and more!
  • Gale in Context for Middle School, High School, or College offers age-appropriate interdisciplinary content that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.

All you need to access these resources is an active CPL library card. We have changed expiration dates on all library cards set to expire in March and April, and will renew already-expired cards online if you contact us. Don't have a card? You can apply online to receive a temporary card good for 90 days.

So, you've started bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, and maybe have started using less straws when you get drinks. But have you ever thought about the eco-impact of your clothes? How about the human impact? Do you know about the fabrics in your wardrobe? Or who made your clothes, and if they're paid living wages?

These authors and documentarians dive into all these issues and more.

Finally Full, Finally Slim hows you how to permanently lose weight by right-sizing your portions without eliminating entire food groups or staring at an empty plate. Within these pages, Dr. Young outlines thirty days' worth of simple changes to help you shed pounds and provides a portion plan that assures you will feel satisfied. She expertly describes the relevance of diet to health and steers you toward whole foods and away from clever marketing claims that may be secretly sabotaging your weight-loss efforts. You'll learn useful strategies for how to eat out, enjoy special occasions, and indulge in a favorite treat without tipping the scale. And because weight loss is about more than food, Dr. Young addresses the whole person-your mind-set, environment, habits, and life-through research-based advice. You'll learn how relationships, gratitude, self-compassion, and sleep patterns, for instance, can make a difference. Portion control outlives all fad diets because it isn't a diet. It's a lifestyle.

In her years of experience treating patients and studying health and nutrition, London has developed a set of tools for creating new patterns and healthful habits that get sustainable results. From having dessert every day to getting the best results from the least amount of working out, DRESSING ON THE SIDE gives readers tools they actually want that will still lead to weight loss, improved health, and (most importantly) a sustainable lifestyle of healthful habits.

Traditional diet programs are nearly all too hard to sustain or end abruptly without giving readers what they need to maintain results: either you quit your diet, or your diet quits you. What London shows in this book is that weight loss and healthy living are about good habits, and this book gives readers the 11 tools they need to create sustainable healthy habits that will let them lose weight, eat chocolate, and achieve optimal health.
