The Witcher Netflix series is finally coming to Netflix on December 20th, 2019. The show will be based off the popular fantasy books, Saga o Wiedźminie, written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, has seven seasons planned in order to tell the story of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer. Check out the following today to get ready for season one of "The Witcher!"
Based on trailers and interviews, the first season will be focused on this book, "The Last Wish," which is a collection of short stories that takes place before the Witcher Saga. These stories introduce Gerlat and Yennefer.
"Sword of Destiny" is the second prequel book that has also been referenced in the trailers. This is another collection of short stories that explains Geralt's connection to Ciri.
To make the Witcher Saga more confusing, "Season of Storms" is the most recently published of Andrzej Sapkowski's books BUT it takes place BEFORE the prequels. However, many suggest reading this book LAST after you read the Witcher Saga due to spoilers. Check out the suggested reading order if you want to read the whole series in order.
Even though the TV series is based on the books, I still highly recommend playing the Witcher 3: the Wild Hunt. This game is one of my favorites and will help you understand the world of the Witcher. The main storyline of the game focuses on Geralt's relationship Ciri and his quest to find her.
The Xbox One version of the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game.
The Witcher comic book series is based on the video game instead of the books. I would recommend this series if;
- You are not familiar with the Witcher.
- You don't like/enjoy reading high fantasy novels.
- You are looking for a quick and brief introduction to the Witcher characters.
