Ten-year-old Abby Ramirez, who is on the autism spectrum, has her hands full when an anxious German shepherd, Destiny, shows up at the Second Chance Ranch animal rescue. While Abby helps Destiny learn to trust people again, Abby has to learn to overcome old habits of her own.

Hey Kids,

Did you know that the United States celebrates its Independence Day on July 4th? It's such a fun holiday. Usually there are fireworks and picnics and parades, and all of these are great ways to come together as a country. To get yourself in the mood for truly unifying festivities, I have a few book suggestions for you. Don't forget to share your favorite patriotic reads below in the comments.

Hey Kids,

June is Audiobook Month. To celebrate, check out an audiobook (or more than one!) for your next family road trip. Our Books on CD Collections for AdultTeen and Children have thousands of titles to choose from, or you can browse our digital collections.

I've included a few suggestions below to get you started. Titles aimed at younger audiences are listed first, but all of these are excellent possibilities for the whole family. Give one a try next time you hop in the car, and let me know if the comments if you have a favorite book to listen to.

Summer is here and we hope these are the best 62 days of your year! To help engage you in some good reading, the following is a list of chapter books about summer vacations and adventures with new and favorite book characters.

Discovering a smelly creature in her garbage can that she names after herself, Olga befriends and studies the eccentric Olgamus using the scientific method, the practices of Jane Goodall, and other scientific concepts.

Ten-year-old Aldo Zelnick chronicles his life and adventures over the course of his summer vacation through journaling and sketches in his diary.

Middle school student, Jamie Kelly, writes all the strange and sometimes not so wonderful things that happens to her or she sees during school in her diary and promises that everything she writes is as true as she wants it to be.

STEM Curiosity

Kids aged 7-10 who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math are first introduced to a topic and the science behind it. After learning about the sessions' topic, participants will be given a problem and challenged to engineer a solution to it individually and as teams.

Speedcubing at CPL

On Saturday, August 4th from 10:00 am to Noon, join our guest, James Hildreth the Michigan representative for the World Cubing Association, as we learn about the sport of competitive speedcubing. Come and learn about cubing, test drive different types of cubes, ask questions, or test your time against others and see if you can reign supreme on the CPL time board! Recommended for patrons aged 8 years old and up.

During Pride Month in June be sure to check out one of these awesome Kids Graphic Novels that celebrate LGBTQ pride.  These graphic novels are filled with strong characters, heroes, princesses, and everything in between!
